Why Holistic Medicine?
Holistic medicine is a broad term encompassing a variety of different practices, but sharing one fundamental philosophy: health is attained and maintained when a person is viewed and treated as a whole.
Instead of viewing the body as a machine: with different parts and pieces separate from each other with separate functions that can be treated in isolation, we view the body as a garden: a system that is self-regulating and composed of different elements, such as soil, sunlight and water, that depend upon each other to become fruitful.
I think these days more and more people are turning to holistic medicine because we treat the person as they would like to be treated, as a whole. We acknowledge the interplay between the individuals' mind, body, emotions and spirit. We recognize that illness is a sign of something out of balance in the system. We treat by providing the guidance needed to bring the system back into it's natural state of health.
The foundation of holistic medicine, and what I love most about it, is this: inside of every person is the potential to be healthy- we just need to find our way of unlocking it.
